Amazon, using their Kindle reader family as a vehicle, has been a major player in the development of both the e-book reader and e-book market. The first Kindle was released in November of 2007. In February of 2009, the updated and enhanced Kindle 2.0 hit the market, quickly followed by the large format Kindle DX in the summer of the same year.

Toning shoes have become hugely popular over the last couple of years or so. Sales of toning shoes in 2008 were a mere $ 17 million. In 2010, sales are estimated to be somewhere between $ 1 billion and $ 1.5 billion. Amazon have absolutely cleaned up with their Kindle e-book reader, it’s a hugely successful product for them. The Kindle currently accounts for 60% of all e-book reader sales in the USA and, with the Kindle 2.0 and the larger DX now on sale in over one hundred countries worldwide, the potential customer base for Amazon is enormous.

We’ve had e-book readers for a decade now – the original reader, the Franklin Ebookman, launched in’99. 2009 has definitely been the year when these devices exploded onto the public stage though. Currently Amazon are the market leaders with their Kindle family. E-books and e-book readers are a perfect fit for Amazon’s product portfolio. Small wonder that they launched two of them in 2009.

It’s probably fair to say that most of us are more environmentally aware these days. It seems improbable that we are about to turn into a nation of eco-warriors overnight, but the majority of people are quite happy to make a little effort to be greener. It is actually a whole bunch of small changes by a large number of people that tends to make the difference. The good news is that you can be more environmentally friendly whilst saving both time and money.

After a couple of years of almost complete domination by Amazon, it looks as if the e-book marketplace is about to see some stern competition. We may even see even the replacement of the Amazon Kindle reader as the market leader.
