Hailey hadn’t realized that Ryan had strayed, but she knew something wasn’t right between them. She couldn’t remember the last time he told her that he loved her. Now it seemed he scarcely noticed her except when he wanted sex. She knew there was a good chance she was loosing him.

Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France so many times, despite the bitterness of the French press that tried to discredit him time and again, that it astonishes us. He rose from cancer victim to cancer conqueror to cycling victor. He had the singular mindset that cancer would not beat him. At times he fell behind other cyclists in different stages of the races. Reportedly, falling behind was on purpose so he could conserve his strength for more difficult stages. Other times, it was because someone, perhaps a sprinter, put on a burst of speed and outdid him. Whatever, he kept himself from being discouraged, figured out how he could have done better, and charged forth again with victory in mind.

Alexis’s rise in her company was fairly rapid given the glass ceiling atmosphere that permeated it. She’d had a perfect situation: A great job, a beautiful home, three really nice kids and a loving, attentive husband – or so it seemed. Some people feel that if they never live with someone outside of marriage, it’s okay to divorce if their expectations aren’t met and then get married to someone else. Why bother to save a marriage if the going gets hard and, heaven forbid, if I can’t have things my own way? When their second marriage does not work out they get another divorce and move on to the next failed attempt.

“Does God consider every marriage as one that is meant to be?” we have been asked. If God actually chose our partners for us, we could say,” Possibly,” but He is not a ruler who rules unquestionably. We live with a free will which sometimes interferes with what is best for us. We make decisions; other people make decisions that influence us; circumstances make decisions for us. Sometimes those decisions are good. Sometimes not.

Both Audrey and Owen had refused to read our books and material. They were too angry, too hurt, too nervous to blame one another for their marital problems. So I suggested that Audrey go to see Fireproof, a movie that focused on a troubled marriage and what the guy did to save it. I was hoping that she would then get her husband, Owen, to see it as well. My hopes were dashed after she saw it and said, “I don’t want Owen to see this. He might start trying to do those things and my mind already is made up. I want out.”

I just listened to a song by Tim McGraw called Just To See You Smile. There’s so much accuracy in this song and yet one glaring error.

I’ve told many of guys that they need to do this in order to make their marriages fantastic. When I do, most get this blank look in their eyes, like they’re wondering what in the world I’m talking about. And frankly, most don’t. They’re clueless. What they don’t know is that it takes very little to make a woman feel special, and the benefits to the relationship are so wonderful that most men can’t believe it is so simple.
