Ever been on a roller coaster that was just a little too old and rickety? (Coney Island’s Cyclone, I’m looking at you!) Or when was the last time you saw a really freaky spider that made you jump from out of your seat? Is a “Daddy Longlegs” really going to do that much damage? But if you are taken aback enough, you might find that you are sweating, anxious, and jittery. These natural “flight or fight” responses are triggered by events that we find troubling.

It’s my personal theory that everyone struggles with some sort of irrational fear, but a phobia is a persistent and powerful fear of something like a situation, activity, thing, animal, or clown. If you have an excessive and unreasonable need to avoid what you fear, chances are you have a phobia. When what you fear spirals beyond your control, and if your fear is interfering with your daily life, a therapist should be called in to mediate and help you regain any control about what you have lost.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 8.7% – 18.1% of American’s have a phobia. Did you know that phobia’s are the most common mental illness among women in all types of age groups and the second most common among men that are older than twenty five? Phobias are not generally diagnosed if they aren’t encountered on a regular basis, or if they are not too distressing to the person with the phobia. Take a moment to consider public speaking. It makes most people nervous, but how often do you have to speak in front of an arena of people?

From a psychological perspective, phobias can be seen as an emotional response – they occur when the fear that was produced by the first dangerous situation is transferred to other situations that are similar, while the original fear might be repressed or forgotten. From a biological perspective, an event that happens to trigger a fear response will be recorded by the amygdala and hippocampus and will be labeled as dangerous. Phobias are considered to be closely linked to the amygdala, an area of the brain that secretes hormones that control fear and aggression.

To Be Continued, Pt. 1

All the time, it is not effortless to promptly accept the demise of someone you love. It is impossible for anything to fill the empty space left behind by a loved one who has passed away.

Even when grief threatens to overcome an individual during a family member’s death, the surviving family members still need to attend to practical affairs. These issues are the planning for the funeral service, arrangement of the burial, and the picking out of the most suitable casket. A casket is the box that will carry the body of a deceased person. Most people are not mindful that the casket comes in various types and makes. The following will discuss the various characteristics of caskets so as to assist individuals in choosing the most suitable one for their dearly departed loved one.

Firstly, you should check out the material of the casket you want to purchase for the funeral. You can either go for wood, which can be found in lots of grains, colours and types such as mahogany, cherry, and maple, or you can go for metal caskets, which are generally made of stainless steel and come in different colours. When choosing between these two kinds of caskets, you would need to think about the look of the exterior as per your preference and the amount you are ready to spend on it.

As far as the make is concerned, you have a choice between half couch or full couch, which determines the outer lid of the casket. In a half couch lid, only the upper half of the body can be exhibited, while the full couch makes it possible to view the whole body.

You can also choose from a wide range of casket sizes. Thus you should be aware of the required dimensions, and whether you require the casket to be modified from the standard available size.

Lastly, you need to consider where to buy the casket. A reputable shop dealing in funerary materials may also offer some caskets; some casket shops take custom-built orders for your dearly departed. Funeral homes provide a choice of caskets, although their stocks tend to be few in number and may be more expensive than from a direct casket shop. You can also choose from a wide selection of casket designs through the Internet, where funeral supplies shops may also have an online store. When buying a casket through online merchants, you must factor in the cost of shipping.

Death is a sensitive time. Funeral directors can help you with the most appropriate funeral services for your loved ones. After all, funerals present the family with a need into transition with moving on with life. Death may generally come unexpectedly, but to say goodbye to a deceased beloved does not really have to be a pricey occasion.
Provided by Helping Articles - A Guide To Different Types Of Caskets

Death usually occurs unexpectedly, and most people would be hard put for the suitable preparations for their beloved’s caskets. There is the cost to consider. Moreover, if you are restricted by costs that you were only able to buy a plain casket, there is the matter of decorating the coffin that will act as your love one’s final resting place. For this certain undertaking, you can enlist the support of your close friends and other relatives to put in their creativity in creating a homage for your departed loved one.

If you opt to embellish your departed beloved’s casket using floral arrangements that you created by your own hand, there are a lot of ways of accomplishing this unique tribute. Oftentimes, the most effective flower arrangements come from the freshest blossoms plucked from your own yard or bought from the flower sellers. If available, flowers that were preferred by your departed loved one should also feature conspicuously on the adornment for the casket.

Nevertheless, you can always choose silk flowers instead of real ones which are ordinarily available in craft stores if choices are limited. There are numerous flower arrangement information you can find in craft magazines especially on tutorial websites online. The tutorials are very useful in providing you tips on how to save more in your flower arrangements by using readily available materials.

There are, nevertheless, men and women (both living and deceased) who are not fond of blooms; so, other stuff can be used to embellish the surface of the casket, such as a photograph collage of the dearly departed individual’s life. To make the tribute more personalized, you can ask family members and close friends to share or lend any pictures that they have of the deceased, and these can be displayed on the casket itself or on a small table nearby.

Together with the photos, you can add in personal mementos or remembrances. It could be anything from a piece of personal belonging which has a very extraordinary meaning or representative of the one who passed on. So, when you’ve obtained enough objects and photographs to create a simple but heartfelt tribute to the life of the deceased, you can then place them on the casket or set them up on a table nearby for others to view.

Death is a sensitive time. Give your deceased loved ones the funeral they deserve with a peaceful funeral service.
Death is but a constant companion of our human life; an inevitable part of the wheel of life. Having said that, despair can truly threaten to break us if we hear news of our loved one's passing away. So, on our part, once we encounter this great loss, we would like to be able to turn back the clock and spend all our waking moments with the loved one before he or she dies.
Provided by Helping Articles - The Tasks And Responsibilities Of A Funeral Director

Death is but a constant companion of our human existence; an unavoidable part of the wheel of life. Nonetheless, hearing news of a beloved’s demise can truly be a root cause for despair. Thus, in our waking hours, we wish to have the strength to turn back time so we could make up and spend more time with our loved ones before they are forever gone from our lives.

Shock and disbelief. These are our immediate responses when a person very close to us passes away. It can be very hard to accept what happened.

The instance we get over our initial reaction, sorrow sinks in. Pained and mourning, making funeral preparations for the one they love who passed away can be so hard.

The devastating anguish one experiences after losing a loved one through death can incapacitate the person from making arrangements for an appropriate funeral service for their loved ones who passed away.

Usually, well-meaning family relations and friends will take on the duty of arranging the funeral service. However, these well-intentioned individuals may hasten the process in the misguided assumption that the bereaved’s life has to get back “to normal” as soon as possible. Often, the life of the one who passed away may not be appropriately given due commemoration.

At this moment, the bereaved is very vulnerable, and the ones arranging the funeral should always remember this. This is a very singular and sensitive time. It is the bereaved’s last chance to pay their respects to someone they cherish.

The funeral director must directly coordinate with the grieving family so as to have an idea of how they would prefer the funeral to turn out. Then, it is in the hands of the funeral director to ensure that the bereaved family’s wishes are followed and that the memorial of the life of the deceased will be as decent and as dignified as possible.

Aside from ensuring that a funeral will be as the bereaved preferred it to be, a funeral director could also take over the processing of licenses or permits for special interment requests, such as interments at sea or cremations, since these ways of burying the dead could call for special interment permits from the authorities.

A funeral, for individuals whose loved ones died, is a very important rite in working out the grief that they feel. A funeral is an essential rite in the start of the healing process of the pain that we all experience when someone we love dies.

Funerals are rituals where we bid adieu to those people who died and yet continue to be cherished in our lives – we bid them goodbye yet hold their memories alive in our hearts.

Death is a sensitive time. Give your deceased loved ones the funerals they deserve with peaceful funeral services.

When death comes to take away someone we love, how do we get over it? It’s hard to find courage to uplift the mood or ward off the gloom, but we can try to smile at the great memories our loved ones left with us after they departed. The manner by which arrangements at the funeral are made can help a lot to make things easier for family members and friends; so they can reserve time to contemplate on memories about the loved one.

An advice from a funeral director is to organise your choice of memorial service music. Music is food for the soul. You can play elating parting and sympathy songs. The family can also convey their sympathy through flowers.

Some people desire to still consider the silverlining with one’s passing. They put in a joke they remember the departed loved one by. Or maybe serve his favourite food. Or they can follow the advice from a popular love song, to laugh and not cry when the one we dear to us has already passed on.

This is also the same with deciding on the right blooms or flower arrangements for the deceased it has to reflect the personality of the the one who passed away. Pastel colors are usually for someone with a very womanlike distinction and is recalled with a bunch of conventional yet refreshing arrangements of gardenias and roses, while an adventurous guy who loves the outdoors may be remembered with bright colored flowers mixed with an mixture of berries, branches and some botanical textures.

Flowers present the relationship that exists between two individuals which in this case the deceased and the sender. Funeral directors have florists that could aid choose the right flowers and arrangements and they will conceptualize a pattern that would be symbolic of the grandness of the person who passed away.

Rest your mind on this sad day.

Funeral rituals have a different significance for each religious tradition. Christians usually do not have somber funeral services; rather, they opt to honor the life of the departed by coming together to share anecdotes about the departed while he or she was still living. In the Buddhist tradition, on the other hand, the funeral rite may be a mark of a departed person’s transition from this life to the next. Also, Buddhist funeral rituals serve as a reminder for those left behind about the impermanence of anything of this world.

Dying is an unavoidable part of living on this planet. Death is a part of the wheel of life. In death, someone departs and someone is left behind. The role of the religion for those who are left behind is to perform a rite of letting go. The funeral is the ritual that permits people to deal with their loved one’s death.

Christian funerals are governed by the Church rules. However, given the fact that there are more than 200 denominations of Christian communities, the traditions can vary according to the particular affiliation of the family.

The very first ritual in a Christian funeral that is organized before the actual service is held relates to assembling around the dead person for a night and reciting prayers for the dead. This important tradition is known as wake. According to present day traditions, this is the stage where friends and family members see the deceased for the last time and offer their heartfelt homage. The body is preserved and placed either at the house or in a Church with only a particular number of visiting hours. In earlier days, the stage following the wake used to be that of absolution, where a cross was placed on the dead person’s chest and offertory, which carried the presents given by visitors, and the deceased was absolved of the sins committed during his earthly tenure.

Then begins the real service itself, where the dead is first carried to the Church in a hearse and prayers from the Bible are said and prayers are sung in the church. Then, the clergy calls upon a friend or family member to give a public eulogy in honour of the deceased. Some communities have tolling of the bells as an integral part of the tradition that marks the end of ceremony. When the funeral service is over, the casket with the deceased is transported to the burial site and burial service takes place before the body is laid to rest by burying.

Lastly, the family members organize a lunch for the friends, relatives and acquaintances who are attending the funeral. The main aim of this custom is to share the sorrow of the family and support them so that they can come to terms with the loss.

Human beings are ill at ease with the idea of dying so they push this aside and try to disregard their own mortality. They try to avoid the reality of death and dying until the last minute. The feeling of loss that threatens to overcome them seems to remove all possibilities of future happiness.
Provided by Helping Articles - Dying And Grieving – How Do We Deal?

Although human beings know of how delicate life is, their tendency is to push aside the disquieting thought of dying. They still refuse to acknowledge death even if it stared them in the face. For those left behind, the feeling of loss darkens their lives and makes them miserable.

It is always hard to make sense of the death of a loved one. Always, there is nothing that could replace the shared memories or the part that your beloved played in your life.

As the days pass after your beloved has already been laid to rest, you gather up the fragmented pieces of your life. You grieve for your loss – a special person who was once an important aspect of your being now dead.

Grieving can totally overcome the life of someone who has lost a loved one. To deal with the sorrow brought about by the death of a beloved, you must take action. Taking action allows the mourning person to honor the life of the dearly departed and commemorate and treasure it.

To celebrate a departed loved one’s life with a memorial is one move that permits you to confront your grief. Cultures all over the globe – even the ancient ones – have ways of honoring the departed. Honoring the dead creates a sense of comfort and solace for those still of the living.

Several usual ways that you can give honor to a deceased loved one is to have a gravestone crafted with a special message to the one who has gone on ahead; works of art or music pieces personally made by you can also serve as endearing tokens of tribute; or you could opt for a gathering at a particular location with a select friends who can give their best memories of the beloved who has passed away – with laughing and tears all around.

The grief that one feels in the passing away of a loved one cannot be compared to how others would feel. Considering this, you must allow yourself time to think of the loss that you experienced. If you are esthetically inclined, painting, writing poems or prose, or composing your own music while at this moment could help you cope with the the grief brought about the demise of a beloved.

It is also helpful to have the support of family and friends as you live in this period where you have to clear your thoughts and feelings to be able to deal with the loss of a loved one.

Death is part of being alive as a human being. Death is part of the cycle of life. In each dying, there are those who die and there are those who mourn their loss. The faith system that a person belongs to must help in doing a rite of letting go for the people who are left behind. This rite of relinquishing is what is known as the funeral.

Funerals around the world are performed by following several customs, rites and rituals. Funeral provides an opportunity to the family of the deceased to pray for his soul and learn to cope with their loss and sorrow.

Church rules govern funeral rites in Christian communities. However, as there are over 200 different communities of Christians, there are many differences in the manner in which the funeral services are organized by each community.

The first and foremost ritual in a Christian funeral that is conducted before the actual ceremony relates to assembling around the deceased for a night and reciting prayers for the dead. This important tradition is known as wake. According to present day practices, this is the time where friends and family see the dead person for the final time and offer their heartfelt homage. The body is either laid at the house or at Church and the duration of paying visit is fixed according to prescribed norms. In earlier times, the wake was followed by the ritual of absolution, which involved purgation of the deceased of all his or her sins in the present life, and laying a cross on the chest and performing the ritual of offertory where people put gifts in the casket.

The following stage is the real ceremony itself in which the dead person is put into a hearse and brought to the Church, where the priests and others chant prayers and hymns from the Bible. Then, the priest calls upon a friend or family member to give a eulogy or tribute to the departed’s life. Some communities have chiming of the bells as a part of the tradition that signifies the end of ceremony. Then the casket with the dead person in it is transported to the burial site for the final set of rituals, called the burial service which precedes the burying.

Finally, funeral traditions need a lunch gathering to be organized after the burial is done. The main purpose of this custom is to share the grief of the family and help them deal and come to terms with the loss.

The demise of a person, in Buddhist tradition, marks his or her transition from this life to the next. For those who are left behind, the demise of a loved one functions a reminder about the impermanence of everything in this world. The message that the funeral rites aim to share is that the deceased has transitioned to his or her rebirth based on the karmic forces exerting influence.

No matter what spiritual background we all have, grief is still a common feeling when family members die. What the faith system in which the person belongs to can do is assist the grieving person to accept his or her loved one’s passing away.

Buddhism is one of the most popular religions practised across the world. The main principles of the religion are based on the teachings of Lord Buddha. Buddhism calls for mercy and love for mankind and awareness of the Ultimate Truth.

These basic tenets of Buddhism can be seen in the rites practised in a Buddhist Funeral. When death occurs in a Buddhist family, there are some main rites which are followed with the objective of ensuring that the soul of the departed can soar to an elevated level. The positive energies of the deceased are evoked to pray and wish the best for the dead person’s life cycle beyond this birth.

The funeral rituals begin with giving the dead person a traditional wash. Buddhist monks read out from religious scriptures, and these chants are believed to give the soul the right guidance to attain spiritual freedom. The teachings of the Buddha, which speak of the value of practising virtue and compassion in daily life, are recited aloud. Meanwhile, the deceased is prepared for the final journey. The relatives normally place some coins in the casket of the deceased. This is done to pay for the deceased’s journey across the mythical River of Three Hells.

Then the friends and family come and pay their last respects to the dead person as the casket is placed at the altar. The relatives and friends offer condolences to the deceased’s family, while the visitors pray for his soul. The proceeding is accompanied with recitation of relevant sutras by the monks. After the completion of recitals, people attending the ceremony bow at the altar. After the proceedings, the family members of the deceased give out gifts to the attendees for sharing their grief.

The family can decide upon whether to cremate the body or bury it according to their familial customs, once all these important rituals are over. These rituals are meant to enable the family to alleviate their sorrow by offering prayers that will elevate the dead to a higher stage of enlightenment and knowledge.
