Addressing Gout Causes
The sight of a body part that has been ravaged by gout often causes some degree of fear and worry. Imagine taking a look at a body part that seems red and swollen beyond recognition, and looks as though it is causing a whole lot of pain to the sufferer. Gout is clearly no laughing matter, because it is a particularly painful form of arthritis, one that can be easily avoided if you just know how, but takes some time to treat if you’re already suffering from it.
How does one fall victim to gout? Gout is a disease that is brought about by an overabundance of uric acid in the body; uric acid is the best-known of all the gout causes. When the system has too much uric acid to process, not all of it is easily excreted by the body, and as a result, what remains is uric acid that eventually crystallizes, builds up, and settles primarily on the joints. Typically, the feet are affected, particularly the big toes, although it has also been known to attack the knees. Gout is very painful and makes it very difficult for you to do simple things like walk and kneel down. This form of arthritis makes the affected joints swell and turn red or purple
Purine-rich foods are a clear cause of gout, because it is purine that transforms into uric acid in the body. Too much purine-rich foods put you at risk, and you would do well to steer clear of these food items. Red meat is an example, as well as some seafood. Some vegetables have also been found to contain purine, but the amount is not significant enough to be a serious contributor to the development of gout.
Another one of the identified gout causes is alcohol. Beer in particular has been observed to be a great contributor to gout, and drinking two or three beers a day can increase your potential for developing gout. With younger adult males consuming more and more beers on a regular basis, the trend of having gout is no longer restricted to older people above the age of 50, but is now also taking place in men in their 30s and below.
Being able to correctly pinpoint these gout causes is a key step towards learning how to eliminate the diseases once it strikes. At the same time, this should guide people towards making better food and drink choices in life so as to prevent the incidence of gout.
