Accountants Are Not Boring
Dentists are all on the brink of suicide, sky divers are all extreme nutcases, and accountants are all dull and boring! Like most professional stereotypes, they are flush with flaws. Most people have an image of accountants as introverts, boring and dull! This image is not only false, it impacts negatively on recruiting and retaining quality people in the industry. So there is a great opportunity that is full of potential for young and upcoming accountants. This is an industry that will always have job security.
The idea that because accountants deal with figures day in day out they must be boring and introverted is completely false. Just because accountants need to take a risk averse approach to their work and its risk assessment does not mean they are boring outside of work! Accountants are no more boring than some pop stars, footballers and advertising executives!
Accountants are becoming more important as the financial world impacts our lives greater and greater! Accountants are exposed to much more than number crunching these days; they are heavily involved in industry and take part in the running of companies. They have far more commercial awareness than they did say 20 years ago. This has impacted on accountants personality and business minds.
Finance Directors are most commonly from accounting backgrounds. In the role of Finance Director, these people usually sit on the boards of large companies; their opinion is generally held in high regard as their skills are so broad these days.
Accountants have had an increased role in business over the last 30 years; there are plenty of accountants out there running businesses, using their disciplines and applying them to all facets of running a company. New and young accountants work closely with all other divisions in industry e.g Factory divisions etc. It would pay for everybody to think a little harder before branding accountants as boring; they are in fact running a large portion of the worlds economy.
