The Many Benefits Of Teen Employment
Summer is in full swing and many teens have jobs by now but many are still left with nothing to do. Decisions have to be made whether to keep looking or figure out something else to do with their time. If you are a teen and have a chance for a job, turning it down would be foolish in this kind of economy. Even if it might not be your dream job, you should consider taking anything you can get.
I’ve always thought that anyone more than 16 should work at least part time during summer vacations. This is because there are many benefits to a part time job. A job is a responsibility that will keep your teen occupied, out of trouble, and lets them earn their own money to spend on their days off. It is also beneficial to your teens self esteem to see that they are growing up and nearly able to be on their own.
It is certainly enjoyable to play video games and sleep late each day. However, you can only do those things and walk around shopping centers aimlessly for just so long. Finding employment, even if only part time employment, helps teenagers become more mature.
It is well known that those who help jobs as youngsters tend to have better work ethics and turn into more effective employees as adults. They are not just more effective employees, but will eventually be better employers also. Holding down a job builds character in ways that hanging around doing nothing simply cannot. You learn to help others and you gain empathy for customers, supervisors and other employees.
It is for these reasons that all older teenagers should try to get summer work. Not only will it benefit them now but it will contribute valuable lessons to their development later on. All their parents will be appreciative as well!
