Well, your not the only one as that is what most people want!
Good news! You likely already do have those six pack abs. The problem is they are covered in a layer or fat.
The common misnomer is that you have to do endless crunches, use fancy gadgets that shock your abs, and really work them in order for them to show. This is for the most part false and is an illusion somewhat propagated by media hype. Hype that we need the perfect body and the gadgets to obtain it, thusly keeping them in business.
That is not to say it’s all false truths, but it distracts you from the real problem which is not the abs muscles, but rather the fatty layer covering them up. Therefore, the answer to getting abs is obvious: You have to lose weight and get rid of the excess fatty layer!
This is of course easier said than done, but then it was never going to be a five minute job. The reality of losing weight is not that tough. It basically consists of diet and exercise! many people do either one or the other and see only partial or no results. Dieting is the most important! but alone it can only do so much. You can count calories, do weight loss programs. Or relentless jogging, cardio and weight lifting. But the solution is to do these in combination! A simple little rule for a lot of things is the 80/20 rule, where your efforts are 80% diet and 20% exercise. These are not fixed and can be modified, but a good diet (including fruit and veg) seems to be key, combined with exercise of course. You should consult a doctor before engaging in any diet or fitness program to be on the safe side. I’ll finish up by saying “good luck!”.
