What To Do During Your Christmas Breaks
Traditionally, Christmas is a time to spend at home with your close family and friends. But increasingly people are choosing to travel to far off places during this period and make the most of their long Christmas breaks. They may travel with or without their extended family and celebrate the occasion at new and different destinations every year.
Those seeking a white Christmas quite often decide to spend their holidays at a glitzy ski resort while others seek the sun and the tranquility of a beach.
When it comes to skiing, USA and Canada have some top resorts. In the USA, states like Wyoming, Colorado, Vermont, California, New Mexico and Utah have some topnotch resorts with fine powder and varied terrains. British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Ontario in Canada too have some incredible resorts for skiers, be they beginners or experts.
In Europe, France and Switzerland lead the way, followed by Italy, Austria and Lapland. With the collapse of communism, the Eastern block countries too have opened up great opportunities. Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Russia offer incredibly cheap skiing vacations. Many of these destinations are also relatively undiscovered and their resort towns have UNESCO-listed world heritage sites not too far away so you can combine your skiing holiday with some culture and history. In Asia, Japan offers some exciting slopes in the Tohoku and Chubu regions.
Sunny beaches beckon those who want to get away from the cold. From the Caribbean and Europe, to Asia and Australia, there are plenty of pristine sandy beaches where the weather is warm and there’s almost no chance of rain.
If you’ve had a tiring year, then your beach holiday can be tranquil and lazy. On the other hand, the more adventurous can go snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, water skiing or indulge in other water sports. Whatever you do, the best bit about your holiday will undoubtedly be flaunting a perfect tan in January.
Most countries around the world celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve either in a big or small way. So whether you are spending your holiday at a ski resort or by the seaside, you can be sure of a festive atmosphere. Live entertainment in parks and bars, special menus in restaurants, festive lighting on streets etc. will add a cheerful touch to your holiday. So even if you are away from your family and friends, your Christmas will still be fun and exciting.
